Balloons, aliens and sausage rolls
In an age of high-tech international cyber crime, there's something refreshingly old school about a superpower using balloons to allegedly spy on its enemies. Over the last week or so it seems that the US has scrambled F-16s at the site of any kind of inflatable flying objects in its airspace. The result is that #aliens and #UFOs are currently trending on social media as the world hypothesises over the international, or intergalactic origins of the obliterated objects.

From the moment Sam Smith turned up to yesterday’s Brits looking like a badly burned spatchcock chicken, there was little chance I was going to be able to relate to much of the evening’s proceedings. A few months ago, I had no idea what an air fryer was. Until that moment in time, my family and I had been nonchalantly cooking our meals using our regular oven, the dependable workhorse to which we had entrusted the baking and cooking – and occasional burning – of our family meals for all time. Its faithful companion, the microwave, had also enjoyed regular use in our household over the years.
